Ha Giang

Located at the highest latitude in Vietnam, Ha Giang covers Area: 7,945.8 sq. km. with the Population: 683.5 thousand habitants (2006) and Ha giang  has Districts: Dong Van, Meo Vac, Yen Minh, Quan Ba, Bac Me, Hoang Su Phi, Vi Xuyen, Xin Man, Bac Quang, Quang Binh. Ha Giang is the home of Ethnic groups: Viet (Kinh), Tay, Dao, H’Mong, San Diu... and is  surrounded by Cao Bang on the east, Tuyen Quang on the south, Lao Cai, and Yen Bai on the west. It shares a border with China in the north (274km boundary).

Ha Giang’s complicated topography is divided into 3 areas. The area on the south has rocky mountain, separated rivers. The west area has sloping mountain side, high pass, valleys, and narrow springs. The low land area includes hills, valley of Lo River, and Ha Giang Town.

The climate is divided in two distinct seasons, rainy and dry, although it tends to vary depending on altitude. The annual average temperature varies between 24 and 28ºC. In winter, the temperature is sometimes down to -5ºC.
The Mountains in Ha Giang are quite high, in which the highest Tay Con Linh point with 2,419m in height. There are good woods, over 1000 kinds of valuable drug trees, animals (tigers, peacocks, phoenix, pangolin) in primitive forests.

Coming to Ha Giang, tourists are attracted by poetic Dong Van Highland, Love Market of Khau Vai. They can buy embroidery such as handkerchief, haversack, and dress with colorful, fine pattern. They also take part in enjoyable market-day of local ethnics. The people and natural scenes here are unlike anywhere in Vietnam.

*How to get There ?

Ha Giang Town is 320km from Hanoi. Ha Giang is on National Highway No.2, 34, 279 linking to Yen Bai, Cao Bang, Lao Cai provinces in turn.

* Tourist feature

Ha Giang is a land with the natural majestic landscapes, the sharpness of long-standing living tradition of the hill tribe people that many tourists have not known. About 350km to the north of Hanoi, Ha Giang town is located in a valley four mountains be surrounded mountains and the Lo river bending in its flow.

About 40 km up north is Quan Ba district, a mountainous region with cool climate year-round. Continue the journey, visitors can stop at La Sung valley, where the beauty here is difficult to be matched, the valley offers a magic appearance of rocky mountain and green forests.

In Dong Van, visitors are immersed in the mountains and the colours of hill tribes in every step. Dong Van district lies at the height 1100m, of which there is Lung Cu peak at the height 1600m to 1800m compared to sea level, this is an extreme north, is the rooftops of Vietnam. Away from Dong Van 12km, under a small beautiful valley beautiful, low-ventilated under the Green samu trees is of mansion of Wang Chi Sinh (are regarded as the Mong King who dispense the entire plateau area Dong Van - Meo Vac). From Dong Van to Meo Vac one has to overcome peak Ma Pi Leng. On beautiful days Ma Pi Leng pass seems to collect all the beauty of nature, with the windy hill sides, the eyes spread to horizon. Nho Que river as a small thread in the beautiful valley. One must stand here between heaven and earth, the scenery of wildlife, golden sound Hmong flute to enjoy the immense of the mountain area.

Coming to Ha Giang, everybody wants to visit Khau Vai love market, only for those who fail their love to come and see their old lovers. They come together and then again return to the family when sunset falls.
To Ha Giang, tourists get to enjoy the beauty of step rice field in Hoang Su Phi. At the ripe rice season, yellow rice can bee seen to the horizon. To a small path going up, visitors will see the ancient tea trees with hundreds of years old of ethnic Dzao people.
